Simple e-mails are generally not forgery-proof. You can never be sure that the e-mail comes from the person indicated as the sender.
You should therefore be careful when dealing with e-mails
- Do not click on any links
- Do not open any unknown attachments or follow any instructions if you are not sure that the e-mail is from the right person.
- If you have any doubts, contact the suspected sender or consult your administrator.
Risk of data loss in the event of misuse
In the case of affected accounts that have, for example, entered their Uni-ID password on a dubious website, we are increasingly experiencing the immediate threat of data loss on the university systems. In more and more cases, the university mailbox is deleted a short time later and the account is misused for spam, etc. The recovery of data takes a considerable amount of time.
It is only possible to restore mailboxes a maximum of 7 days after deletion and this is not always completely successful.
Therefore: Be careful
Be extremely careful where you enter passwords, if in doubt, don't and ask your institute's IT department or us at the HRZ!
