The University IT and Data Center provides central IT services to the university. Hence, we support progress in the fields of research and teaching. digitalisation, project management and transfer of knowledge at one of the most research focussed universities in Germany. Working at the University IT and Data Center
The University IT and Data Center offers a variety of interesting and diverse areas and activities. As service provider the HRZ is responsible for the IT-infrastructure and the central digital services of the university. We operate the university network (BONNET), provide server, computing data and data storage solutions, which are essential for the operation of the university. Furthermore, we give extensive IT-support to all university members and support with technical questions to the central IT-services.
Via the continuing innovation and development of a further digitalised (university-) world, we as the University IT and Data Center ensure that the University of Bonn is technologically up-to-date and meets any growing demands.

As University IT and Data Center we create the basis for accessing all IT-services of the university and in this way we support the excellent research at one of the most research focussed universities in Germany and worldwide. Our employees profit from stable working conditions and location. Working at a university contains diverse IT area – from network infrastructure over e-learning up to supporting studying, research and teaching. Consequently, our work remains always interesting and varied. The work with researchers and teachers is particularly interesting: our employees often support innovative research projects and digital education. With their work the HRZ members also directly contribute to improvementsin the education space and support the transfer of knowledge and research. As a modern employer, the University of Bonn also offers flexible working schedules and working concepts, which promotes a healthy work-life balance. The subject of continued education is heavily promoted at the University of Bonn and our employees have access to internal trainings. conferences and classes, to further their own professional profiles.
We at the HRZ do our best to create pleasant and attractive working conditions. Following the new-work-concept, we have already remodelled a room in 2023 and furnished it with silent boxes (see below), which function as sound-isolated, calm workspaces and conference boxes.

Maike is part of the Identity Management team and with her work she forms the foundation for all access to our IT-services of the University of Bonn.

Research data, code, service! Sergej conceptualises and operates the resesarch data management of the university, together with his colleagues.

Anonymity at the workplace: Absolutely not! We appreciate our colleagues not just for their competence but also as people. That is important to us.

We are the digital backbone of the research and together with our team we want to do our part in curing serious diseases, to high-performance physics and to the Digital Humanities.

Working in IT at a top university is many things - but never boring. We offer an agile and dynamic work environment, in where we find solutions for problems that have not existed yesterday.

Employees take no risks with us! Since 1818 the University of Bonn coins the city of Bonn, since 1974 we coin its computing capacities as central IT-service provider. We are not a trend. We are going to stay.

We offer fields of activity that cannot be found anywhere else: maintaining a city-wide network or designing high-performance computing are tasks that are rare, exciting and challenging at the same time.
