IP-Addressmanagement (IPAM, DNS, DHCP)
The IPAM provides a web interface to the Domain Name System (DNS) and to automatic IP address assignment (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, DHCP) in institute networks. DNS is one of the most important services on the internet and is used to assign IP addresses their own names. Every computer connected to the university network needs an IP address and should be assigned a DNS name. The IPAM allows administrators to manage the IP addresses in the assigned institute networks themselves. Furthermore, it is possible to control the automatic IP address allocation in the assigned institute networks via DHCP.

How does it work?
Administrator:innen können über dnsadmin@uni-bonn.de einen Zugang zum IPAM beantragen. Benötigt wird eine Uni-ID und ein Rechner mit einer festen IP-Adresse, der für den Zugang zum IPAM verwendet werden soll. Die Uni-ID und die IP-Adresse des Rechners wird dann für den Zugang zur Verwaltung der zugeordneten Institutsnetze und DNS-Domains freigeschaltet.

FAQ
Has the login been tried from the machine with the unlocked IP address?
Changes or the creation of DNS entries are automatically transmitted to the DNS servers every two hours (every odd hour; e.g. 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. ...). For DNS entries within a zone, there is also the option of a "Quick Deploy" and the changes are immediately visible on the DNS servers of the university.
Changes to the DHCP settings are reported to the DHCP server every hour. A transmission of the changes takes place every half hour (e.g.: 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., ....).
